Sonko was given the all clear on Thursday shortly after 3:30. The clearance procedure took about 45 minutes.
The former governor of Nairobi and Kisauni MP Ali Mbogo had traveled together to the IEBC offices.
Chirau Ali Mwakere, the chairman of the Wiper party, was also present.
The IEBC had invited Sonko for clearance following a court order directing theM to put the Wiper candidate on the ballot.
After clearance, Sonko described the occassion as “victory.”
The elated supporters chanted praises to Sonko immediately after it was confirmed that the former governor would be on the ballot.
“Si uchawi ni maombi!” they chanted.
