Reopening of basic learning Institutions slated for Monday July 11th will have to be postponed to Tuesday 12th after the government declared a public holiday.
Interior CS Fred Matiang’i declared Monday 11th July 2022 a public holiday to mark Idd–ul –Adha in a Gazette notice dated 8th July 2022.
CS Matiangí said, “It is notified for general information that in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 3 as read with section 2 (2) of the Public Holidays Act (Cap. 110), the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Co-ordination of National Government declares Monday, 11th July, 2022 a public holiday marking Idd–ul –Adha.”
Idd-ul-Adha simply translates to ‘Holiday of the Sacrifice’ and is the second and biggest of the two main holidays celebrated in Islam the other being Eid al-Fitr.
It honors the willingness of Abraham to sacrifice his son Ishmael as an act of obedience to Allah’s command.
The second term was slated to start on July 11, 2022, and lapse on September 16, while the third term runs from September 26 to November 25.
