Despite government directives to reduce prices, maize flour prices won’t change during the week.
This is in response to the cancelled talks with maize millers. The Ministry of Agriculture was to pay part of the production cost that will see a 2kg packet of unga reduced to KSh 100. Unga retail prices were to range from KSh 250 for a 5kg packet to KSh 490 for a 10kg packet.
To protect Kenyans from the high expense of living, the government intended to subsidize unga prices for a period of four weeks.
Later this week, negotiations regarding the subsidy agreement are expected to resume.
