During a protest by Ramula Secondary School students in Gem, Siaya County, one person was shot dead and two police officers were injured.
Chacha Mosero, deputy county commissioner in Gem, said the deceased was shot while police were dispersing rowdy students and locals, including boda boda riders.
The students, along with members of the community, threatened to burn down the Ramula Police Station.
The victim’s body was taken to the Yala sub-county hospital morgue, while the two police officers were rushed to the same hospital for treatment.
Chacha stated that the students stormed the Ramula Police Station early in the morning to protest their teacher’s suicide due to defilement allegations.
“The students stormed Ramula Police Post yesterday morning. They accused the cops of pressuring their teacher into committing suicide. “They beat up cops along with ‘bodaboda’ riders who had joined them,” he said.
During the protest, no students were injured.
According to the administrator, the teacher was summoned by the police on Saturday after a report was filed by a 17-year-old girl, a Ramula student, that he had defiled her at his house.
According to the girl, the teacher asked her to assist him with cleaning and washing clothes at his house on Saturday morning. Instead, when he arrived at the teacher’s house, he shut the door.
and defiled her.
A medical examination, according to Chacha, confirmed that the girl had been defiled.
“We summoned him for questioning and released him the same day because we needed to conduct additional investigations.” “We got reports this morning that he committed suicide at his house on Saturday night,” Chacha said.
Chacha told the media that police were forced to take the girl into custody for her own safety because her classmates were threatening to beat her up. She was eventually released to her parents, who took her home with them.
Chacha stated that the incident is still being investigated.
