Investigations into the killings of four friends accused of money fraud took a new twist after it emerged one had conned the lover of his accomplice.
Accusations of their involvement in a money and cryptocurrency fraud led to the discovery of the deaths of Fred Obare, Frank Obegi, Moses Nyachae, and Elijah Omeka in Kijabe Forest and Magadi.
It emerged Wednesday that Ms Doreen Makena, Omeka’s lover, had complained of losing Sh100,000 to Obare.
Ms. Makena had a complaint against Obare regarding a Sh100,000 academic writing account, according to testimonies recorded by Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) investigators.
Obare’s body was found on Monday in Magadi, Kajiado County, while Obegi, Nyachae, and Omeka’s bodies were found on Sunday in Kijabe Forest, Kiambu County.

Stephanie Mburu, the wife of Obare, revealed to investigators and family members that her husband had informed her that he had received a call from Ms. Makena and that he would be joining her in filing a report of her husband’s disappearance at the Kasarani Police Station.
On Thursday evening, Ms Makena called Ms Mburu asking whether her husband had arrived home but he had not. According to Obare’s brother Finley Mokaya, Obare’s phone was switched off at 2.30pm the same day, shortly after he spoke to Ms Makena.
He told the Nation on Tuesday in the afternoon, “That was the last time we heard from him. Additionally, it has come to light that Ms. Mburu had stopped working with the family and had departed the city for an unidentified place.
