Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the son of the President of the Republic of Uganda has been dropped from the position of Commander of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces Land Forces.

He was also promoted to full General, leaving his lower post with immediate effect according to multiple Ugandan media houses.

Maj Gen Kayanja Muhanga, the current commander of Operation Shujaa in the Democratic Republic of Congo, was promoted to Lieutenant General and named the new UPDF Commander of Land Forces, succeeding Muhoo

Yoweri Museveni’s son had hinted at being dropped in an earlier statement he shared on Tuesday, October 4.

“Had a good discussion with my father this morning. Apparently, my tweets scared Kenyans too much. He will announce the changes.

“There is a special prayer I shall make for our army,” Muhoozi tweeted.

The former UPF commander made several controversial tweets about the democracy in Kenya, from opining that former President Uhuru Kenyatta ought to have run for the third term to raiding Nairobi with his army.

Uganda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, however, distanced itself from the tweets which caused an uproar in Kenya.

Uganda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, however, distanced itself from the tweets which caused an uproar in Kenya.

“To this end, the Government of the Republic of Uganda wishes to reiterate its commitment to good neighbourliness, peaceful co-existence and cooperation.”

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to clarify that the Government of the Republic of Uganda does not conduct its Foreign Policy and other official business through social media nor does it depend on social media sources in dealing with other sovereign Governments,” the ministry stated.

On the same day, the nominee for Cabinet Affairs, Alfred Mutua, met Uganda’s ambassador to Kenya, Hassan Wasswa Galiwango. Mutua did not disclose details of their meeting apart from tweeting, “Mambo iko sawa (All is well).”
