The government of Kenya on Wednesday, May 25, announced it was on high alert to detect any cases of Monkeypox, the viral disease that has been spreading globally.
The disease has yet to be reported in the country, according to Health Principal Secretary Susan Mochache, but the country has strengthened surveillance at all entrance points across its borders.
Kenya was prepared and well able to detect and respond if such a case was identified, she added.
“We have nothing to worry; we’ll respond to the monkeypox outbreak with the same surveillance procedures we utilized during Covid19.We have the ability to test,” she stated.
The disease is mainly spread through close skin to skin from the lesions of the person suffering the condition. It has mainly spread in Europe and North America.
