Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha was caught in yet another controversial video dismissing a man in a rather demeaning manner.
The incident happened on Tuesday, August 2, as he was inspecting and commissioning a new Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) phase two classroom at Bar Union Secondary School in Kisumu County.
In the video that has drawn a lot of criticism, a man is shown giving Magoha an irrigation jerrican in exchange for a tree that had been planted in his honor.
“Get away from me, you smell of alcohol,” the CS shouted at the young man, in the company of police officers, teachers and students
It was not the first time Magoha had been spotted making appalling remarks in public, some of which have seen his powers as CS reduced.
In November 2020, the CS was seen reprimanding a grey-haired senior citizen before dismissing him.
The visibly senior citizen tried to respond to his boss’ query on the matter – noting that the issue would be handled and a report prepared.
“I am not talking about a report, I am talking about what is here on the ground. If I say you are a fool would I be lying?” he posed to the official.
On July 26 this year, the CS was also captured in a clip during a presser when he demanded to know if an NTV journalist was an Al Shabaab representative. The journalist was a female covered in a hijab.
“First of all, where do you come from? Who are you representing? Because if you are representing Al Shabaab, I will not answer you,” the professor of medicine remarked.
The Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims (SUPKEM) got wind of the video after claiming that the comments endangered the journalist’s constitutionally protected right to practice his or her faith.
Regarding the journalist’s contentious comments on Al Shabaab, the minister apologized to them as well as to the Muslim community
