On Monday and Tuesday, a number of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s cabinet members announced their resignation from the government in order to join politics.
The majority of the leaders have expressed an interest in running for governor in their respective counties.
Following their resignations, some of them chose to join ODM leader Raila Odinga’s camp.
Others went to the camp of DP William Ruto.
The following have joined Ruto’s Camp
- .Engineer John Mosonik- The Petroleum CAS resigned to run for Bomet County Gubernatorial seat.
- .Charles Keter- The former devolution CS resigned on Tuesday, February 8, and is aiming to run for the Kericho County Gubernatorial seat.
- .Patrick Ole Ntutu- The Labour and Social Protection Cs is aiming to vie for the Narok Governor seat.
- .Fred Segor- The PS is aiming at the Baringo Gubernatorial seat on a UDA ticket.
- Joseph Boinnet- The former police boss resigned from his Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) in the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife to run for the Elgeyo-Marakwet Gubernatorial seat.
The following have joined Raila’s Camp
- 1.Chris Obure- Obure resigned on Wednesday morning to contest for the Kisii County top seat.
- Sicily Kariuki- the Water CS is aiming for the Nyandarua County top seat.
- .Gideon Munga’aro- Mungaro aims to succeed Amason Kingi as the next Kilifi Governor.
- CAS Ken Obura- The East African Community CAS is aiming to run for the Kisumu County gubernatorial seat.
- Hassan Noor Hassan- the Education CAS also resigned to vie to the Mandera Gubernatorial seat.
- .John Munyes- The Cs Petroleum and Mining resigned on Tuesday and he is intending to succeed Josphat Nanok as the next Turkana Governor
- On 11 August 2020 Beatrice Elachi resigned as Nairobi County Speaker, in a televised address, citing death threats directed towards her. She is joining Raila.
