The Kenya National Examination Council is set to raise KCPE, KCSE examination budget by 6 billion for a plan promote the efficiency of the national examinations.
The examination body stated that around 50.6 billion Kenyan shillings funds are needed opposed to the projected 44.1 billion Kenyan shillings.
In the plan that the council unveiled today, Wednesday Dec 22nd 2021, the council is planning to maximize its sources of income. The Kenya National Examination Council also listed additional examinations and other alternative methods it will implement in order to raise the expected amount which will be used to facilitate the council’s mandate.
The government of Kenya waived the KNEC examination fee for all class eight and form four candidate excluding those who are not citizens of Kenya and the ones re-sitting the exam. Despite this, the Kenya National Examination Council argues that for the past few years the government has been constantly allocating the same amount of money while the cost of examining the candidates has gradually increased.
For this reason, the council is looking for alternative ways including partnership with other government institutions that are in need of examination related services or products at a fee. Further, the council also stated its plans to produce and sell past papers, mathematical tables via online platforms.
Apart from this, the council also laid out its shortage of staff. In the 2021-2026 plan, the council will need additional one hundred and forty-six staff members.
The KCSE examination of the year 2021 is set to commence in March of 2022 and end in April of the same year. The total registered number of candidates sitting for the exam is eight hundred and thirty one thousand and twenty six (831,026) According to the revised timetable the first exam will be administered on Monday, March 14th 2022 at exactly 8.00 am while the last examination paper will be administered on Friday April 1st 2022 at 8.00. The exam will run for a period of two weeks.
The KCPE examination will also begin on Monday 7th March 2022 and end on Wedneday 9th March. The total number of registered students is one million,two hundred and twenty five thousand,six hundred and ninety three (1,225,693) candidates.
