The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has introduced an SMS platform for parents and teachers to check registration details for Grade Six, Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE), and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidates in 2022.
The examination body issued a statement on Saturday, May 28 advising school administrators and parents to double-check that their students have been properly registered for the November and December exams.
Details could be obtained by forwarding examination details to the SMS number 20076, according to KNEC.()
“By sending an SMS to 20076, headteachers, parents, and candidates can now confirm the registration details for the 2022 KPSEA, KCPE, and KCSE tests. Send to 20076 in the following format: (Exam)(Index Number), for example, KCPE36611030002. You will receive a confirmation message,” KNEC stated.
This will be the first time that Grade Six students are assessed under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) before joining junior secondary school.
Speaking at the release of the 2021 KCSE examinations, Education Cabinet Secretary, George Magoha, gave registration guidelines for the 2022 examination class noting that the exams will go on smoothly despite him leaving the office in August.
Cs Magoha noted that there were concerns of some school heads demanding registration fees from students despite the government paying for them.
The CS warned that the Ministry will take disciplinary action against schools that contravened its directive on examinations.
“To the headteachers and principals, we are disappointed that you have yet to start registering students and pupils for the forthcoming KPSEA, KCPE, and KCSE exams which must be ready.
“Please ensure that every child is registered. I hope we are not going to argue about this. The government is paying exam fees for all students. It is the children’s right,” he stated.
Additionally, he stated that there will be no extension of the registration deadline which was set for May 14.
“When I look at the KNEC portal, I get discouraged. Our headteachers and principals think that we will extend the registration deadline.”
