As you can see, obtaining a degree in education is the first step toward a career as a well-paid teacher in an international school (in the subjects you intend to teach e.g. Science, French, Humanities, English, Economics, ICT, and more).

Next, taking a course in Teaching International Curricula can give you a huge boost– you can enroll in any institution in Kenya that offers IB training for teachers or take a course that covers a broader range of skills/knowledge required to successfully teach international curricula.

Here is a list of Kenyan institutions that provide IB teacher training, IGCSE teacher training, and other useful short courses for Kenyan teachers (both experienced and new).

International baccalaureate training for teachers in Kenya
If you want to teach in international baccalaureate schools in Kenya, you can take the following courses:

  • Virtual IB workshops at the Aga Khan Academy
  • Aga Khan Academies provides authorized International Baccalaureate (IB) training workshops online for Primary and Middle Years teachers, as well as Diploma Programme teachers.

The workshops teach strategies and techniques for effectively teaching IB courses (in a classroom) and are led by highly skilled IB experts.

Write to workshops@agakhanacademies.org if you have any questions about the course (including the next intake).

Another option is to pursue the PGCEi, a part-time distance learning programme of professional development for educators working outside the UK.

The course is offered by the University of Nottingham through Braeburn International School, and upon successful completion, you will be awarded a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (international).

This certificate confers you the Qualified Teacher Status
