To protect their safety ahead of the August elections, each presidential candidate will be assigned at least ten armed police officers beginning June 8.
Of these, two officers will man their city and rural homes together with their running mates on a 24-hour basis and divided into two shifts.
Then, anytime the candidates and their running mates are out campaigning, a squad of at least five officers would follow them.
The team will be led by an inspector who will be obligated to communicate with commanders in whatever location they visit for security purposes.
Inspector General Hilary Mutyambai established a pool of over 200 policemen who will be deployed to the candidates after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission publishes the results.
Officers from the General Service Unit, Kenya Police, the Administration Police, and the Prisons Service make up the pool.
The candidates and their running mates are expected to provide logistics to the officers seconded to them.
