Nominated member of parliament John Mbadi was on Thursday, November 3, elected as the chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) in the National Assembly.
Mbadi was elected unopposed during a committee meeting held on Thursday, November 3. Butere Member of Parliament Nicholas Tindi was elected as the committee’s Vice Chairperson.
The committee’s leadership is usually reserved for opposition members of parliament and is tasked with the role of oversight on the financial records of government departments and institutions
Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro was also elected as the Chairperson of the Budget and Appropriation Committee.
Upon his approval, Nyoro will steer the operations of the influential committee tasked with the role of coordinating, controlling and monitoring the national budget.
The committee is also responsible for examining bills related to the national budget, including appropriations bills. Notably, President William Ruto has affirmed his intention to amend the budget to incorporate funds meant for the Hustlers’ fund.
Ndindi Nyoro will be deputized by Teso South MP Mary Emase who was elected as the Vice Chairperson.
Other notable members elected as leaders of house committees include Tharaka Nithi legislator George Murungara who was elected as the Chairperson of the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee (JLAC).
The chairmanship of the Departmental Committee on Defence, Intelligence and Foreign Affairs was handed to Belgut MP Nelson Koech, while Webuye West MP Dan Wanyama was elected as the Chairperson of the Sports and Culture committee.
Ndia MP George Macharia Kariuki was elected as the leader of the Committee on Transport and Infrastructure with Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa as his deputy.
